CHALLENGES IN DIPLOMA ENGINEERING JOBS FOR WOMEN
In India, so far, skilled work was learnt and done traditionally. Often sons learnt these skills from their father who was employed.
But the need for proper training was realized for skill development in the past few decades. After the adverse impact on industries due to the lack of skill development, recently the Prime Minister Kaushal Vikas Yojna (PMKVY) was started. The objective of this scheme is to benefit 10 lakh youth in four years (2016-2020).
PMKVY is the key scheme of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). The aim of this skill certification plan is to enable a large number of Indian youth to get better livelihood.
Under this scheme, the appraisal is also done along with learning the skills and it is certified under the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). In this scheme, full payment of training and assessment fees is done by the government.
Candidates of Indian nationality who are unemployed after leaving school or college are benefiting from short-term training given at PMKVY Training Centers (TC). In addition to providing dual training according to the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF), TC is providing training in soft skills, entrepreneurship, financial and digital literacy. Training period is between 150 to 300 hours according to the job.
Individuals with prior knowledge, experience or skills are evaluated and certified under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) component. PMKVY's schemes provide training in specialized areas and / or on campus of government bodies, corporate or industry bodies.
PMKVY organizes skill and employment fair every six months in which youth and women are actively participating. Every effort has been made by PMKVY TC so that the candidates get appropriate opportunities for appointment and the basic objective of the scheme is complete.
In order to maintain high standards for ensuring the quality of PMKVY TC, NSDC and the listed inspection agencies through the skill development management system (SDMS) work to achieve this by self-audit reporting, call verification, sudden visits and various monitoring methods.
PMKVY scheme is being implemented through National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).
