Tips for Working from Home Efficiently
The term ‘work from home’ is the reality of today. The COVID-19 pandemic has made it a necessity and to a great extent, it has helped organizations to ensure continuity and work deliveries. However, there’s a catch here – a sense of lax creeps in. Truth be told, feeling a little lazy while at home is not entirely your fault – it is human nature, after all! But, there are ways to work efficiently even when you are at home. Here is what you can do: -
1. Set Up a Work Desk
Slouching on the bed or the sofa while working may seem like a comfortable idea but it definitely eats into your productivity. Make sure that you set up a work desk at home - can be your study table or even your dining table for that matter, but sit and work there the way you do at the office.
2. Ensure Punctuality
Punctuality shouldn’t go out the window just because you are working from home. As an employee, it is your responsibility to make sure that you login and start your work at the right time. Of course, there are a few flexibilities but don’t misuse them. If your work hours are from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm, make sure you adhere to it even when you are at home.
3. Dress Up Properly
As Barney Stinson would say - ‘Suit Up’! Well, not literally but don’t start working from home wearing your night clothes. More so because you never know when you have to get in touch with your manager or a client over a video call - these things can be impromptu! And you surely wouldn’t want them to see you in a sleepy and lazy condition, right? So, get up, have a shower, and dress up properly. No doubt, you can take the flexibility of wearing more comfortable clothes but make sure your appearance is presentable and professional.
4. Plan your Day
While some already have an idea what their tasks will be for the next day, there are a few for whom their tasks are aligned on the day of work itself. Whatever may be the case, make it a point to plan out your day. For example, if you are a writer and you are assigned an article for the day, plan out how much time you need for research, time to complete the first draft, and so on. Just make sure you stick to the plan. Taking more hours for a task than you ideally should is certainly not the way to go about it.
Last but not least, don’t forget to take short breaks in between. Whether you work from the office or home, you need them! Wait, actually your brain needs them. After all, working continuously without any breaks will jam your mind!
The advice is here and so are you. Align yourself to work as sincerely as you can during this ‘work from home’ phase; it is something that is going to keep you in good stead not just for your company but also for yourself.
